Art Prize, Grand Rapids MI - 2025 Entry

“Don’t Rain on my Parade!”

The first time I folded an origami dog in my studio, I realized the potential of the stories I could tell. While I would classify my paintings as still life, they are anything but still. Some authors know what their stories will be before writing; I find that my stories unfold as I go along. Don’t Rain on My Parade started with me playing with many colorful dogs origami. Of course, the song popped into my head, and I loved the song’s determination it exudes. My creations are meant to be full of whimsey and joy. They inspire my imagination and I hope they do the same for you as well.

As an exciting feature for this 2025 ArtPrize, I will be selling prints of this piece: Don’t Rain on My Parade. (Please click here to purchase a print – go to the store front.)
